The California Avocado Society (CAS), California Avocado Commission and the University of California Cooperative Extension are hosting a series of field trips that allow California avocado growers to see local issues affecting the industry. Speakers and locations will be announced in the near future.
The June 13 seminar will take place in San Luis Obispo at the Mehlschau Ranch at 530 Mehlschau Road. Jacob Moreno, from Irrometer, will demonstrate tensiometer installation. Mary Bianchi will demonstrate scheduling irrigations from an atmometer. Micaela Mellein, Coastal San Luis RCD, will talk about irrigation evaluations. The experts will discuss making irrigation decisions with available water. There may be a drone demonstration as well.
For the June 15 seminar, to enter the Nick Stehly Farm, you must do so at the end of McNally Rd off Cole Grade Road. Do not take an alternate route suggested by Google maps because the gates off Lilac Road are locked. Growers will be staged at the gate entrance and then car pool to the high density block, which is a short distance from there.
