The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties for Thursday October 3 through Saturday October 5, 2013. They warn of the potential for critical fire weather conditions starting late Thursday and warn of a dry and warm offshore wind event possible Thursday through Saturday.

Persea mite populations have started to flare up in recent weeks across California’s avocado growing region, but especially in the south, and may require treatment in some areas. Persea mite populations are suppressed or even crash when temperatures exceed 100 °F for several consecutive days. However, our relatively cool summer has allowed the Persea mite populations to remain active, and now they are building to economically damaging levels in many areas.
