The California Avocado Commission is pleased to announce that ProGibb LV Plus Plant Growth Regulator Solution (gibberellic acid) for use on avocados in California will continue to be available to California growers under a Special Local Need (SLN) registration. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation accepted CAC’s request on March 3, 2026 to renew the SLN through July 31, 2029.
This renewal was necessary because Valent Biosciences, the manufacturer of ProGibb LV Plus, was unable to obtain a full registration for the use of ProGibb on avocados prior to the expiration of the previous SLN. Valent’s representatives tell CAC, “Our plan is to eventually move this SLN use on the master label of ProGibb. But there are several other uses on the ProGibb label that needs to be amended (grapes, oranges, etc.) and when all these use patterns are finalized Valent will make the submission to EPA, and after approval to CDPR. Realistically, to get the avocado use pattern on the label of the commercial ProGibb bottles will likely take a couple of years due to the long review processes at the EPA and CDPR.”
The use pattern for ProGibb LV Plus remains the same as under the previous SLN. Ground applications should be made by mixing 12.5 fluid ounces of product in at least 100 gallons of water per acre. Aerial applications should be made by mixing 12.5 fluid ounces of product in at least 75 gallons of water per acre. Only one (1) application is allowed per year.
The restricted entry interval (REI) is 4 hours, and the preharvest interval (PHI) is 0 days, so ProGibb LV Plus can be used with minimal disruption to harvesting and other grove management activities.
ProGibb LV Plus can be used under organic and conventional management.

- A copy of the updated SLN Label must be in the possession of the user at the time of application.
- The signature of the County Agricultural Commissioner or their designee must be obtained prior to the use of ProGibb LV Plus.
- This SLN is only valid for the ProGibb LV Plus product manufactured by Valent BioSciences Corporation. Generic gibberellic acid products may not be used under this SLN.
