Growing California Avocados

California avocado growers are invited to attend a California avocado growers' meeting (either in person or via Zoom) on June 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The meeting will cover a variety of topics of interest to growers.

On May 26, the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Avocado Inspection Program announced the Reed avocado release dates for the 2023/2024 season. 

On April 25, the California Avocado Society hosted the World Avocado Congress Comes to California, where speakers shared reports from the WAC that was held recently in Auckland, New Zealand. A recording of that event is now available online.

To help organic producers mitigate risk, assist growers with the costs associated with transitioning to organic production and expand the organic market, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has supports in place as part of its Organic Transition Initiative.

The California Avocado Commission’s annual grower crop survey plays a critical role in helping the Commission assess the industry’s overall productivity and better understand and address the challenges growers face.  By completing the survey, California avocado growers can help the Commission fine tune the California crop estimate.

An online recording of the “California Disaster Assistance Webinar” is now available online. The USDA is also hosting another virtual question-and-answer session concerning USDA disaster assistance on April 20.

The California Avocado Society, in partnership with the California Avocado Commission and the UC-Cooperative Extension, is hosting an Avocado Grower Seminar entitled, “World Avo Congress Comes to California,” that will cover the full gamut of avocado growing topics presented during the World Avocado Congress.

A recording of the “Get Down – Fertilizers” seminar is now available online. The seminar outlined best practices for fertilization, as well as how to read water and soil reports applicable to California avocado groves.
