California avocado industry members impacted by the recent wildfires and/or Santa Ana winds must notify their crop insurance agent within 72 hours of the events; field appointments for growers who have been impacted by the Thomas Fire are available. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued an alert for a “Potential significant storm for Southwest California Tuesday and Wednesday” (January 9th-10th). If your grove was damaged by the Thomas Fire or is downhill from a burned area you are encouraged to plan for the possibility of unusual debris laden runoff flows.
The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), California Avocado Commission (CAC) and California Avocado Society will host a Fire Recovery and Frost Refresher meeting on January 10, 2018.
