Recent Bills Provide Relief to Wildfire Victims
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills that provide relief to victims of recent wildfires. Assembly Bill 1249 and Senate Bill 1246 allow wildfire victims to exclude wildfire settlement claims from their taxable income. This includes claims made from the 2015 Butte Fire, 2017 North Bay Fires, 2017 Thomas Fire, 2018 Woolsey Fire and the 2018 Camp Fire. The bills will allow wildfire victims to receive the full value of the settlements they received to compensate them for the losses they suffered.
