The University of California Cooperative Extension of San Diego County offers a Farm Labor Management Training Program designed to help agricultural employers better understand and mitigate labor related risks. As part of this program, two ag labor management seminars are being hosted in August.

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Small Farms, Food Safety Technical Assistance Programs is offering a two-day virtual Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training course from July 9 – 10. The course meets the requirements set by the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule mandating at least one member of an agricultural operation attend a PSA course.

The California Avocado Society, in partnership with the California Avocado Commission and the UC Cooperative Extension, is hosting a comprehensive Avocado Field Seminar on June 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The University of California Cooperative is hosting an Intro to Integrated Pest Management for Farmers webinar on June 11 from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Experts in the field will discuss how to manage pests with practices that reduce reliance on pesticides.

May 15, 2024
The California Avocado Commission will host a field day at Pine Tree Ranch on June 5, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. that will focus on the new California avocado crop coefficient research, using a crop coefficient for irrigation purposes and the GEM spacing trial.

On May 14 at 12:30 p.m., Paloma Dadlani — a graduate student under Dr. Mark Hoddle who has been spearheading avocado lace bug research funded by the California Avocado Commission — will deliver her master’s thesis defense seminar. Interested California avocado growers can view the thesis defense online or attend in person at the UC Riverside Entomology Building.

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources department is hosting a Thelma Hansen Symposium entitled, “Trees to the Rescue: Solutions for Climate Change.” The three-day webinar will take place May 14 – 16 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

On March 18, the Avocado Café will host a special session entitled, “The use of Gibbberellic Acid to enhance fruit set and how to read soil and water reports — reviewing the tools on www.avocadosource.com.” The virtual session will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
