On May 14 at 12:30 p.m., Paloma Dadlani — a graduate student under Dr. Mark Hoddle who has been spearheading avocado lace bug research funded by the California Avocado Commission — will deliver her master’s thesis defense seminar. Interested California avocado growers can view the thesis defense online or attend in person at the UC Riverside Entomology Building.

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources department is hosting a Thelma Hansen Symposium entitled, “Trees to the Rescue: Solutions for Climate Change.” The three-day webinar will take place May 14 – 16 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

On March 18, the Avocado Café will host a special session entitled, “The use of Gibbberellic Acid to enhance fruit set and how to read soil and water reports — reviewing the tools on www.avocadosource.com.” The virtual session will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

The new Expanding Our Roots: Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Mentorship Program will begin accepting enrollments on February 21. The free program is designed for farmers and ranchers with one to 10 years of experience and will pair 200 new farmers/ranchers with mentors who have more than 10 years of experience.

The California Avocado Society is hosting a free “Fertilizers and Irrigation” seminar on April 11 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The event will be held in person and virtually.

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources department is offering a two-day virtual Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training course that satisfies the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule requirement. Registration closes February 15.

On January 9, 2024, the Avocado Café will host a free "Pollination and Pollinizers" webinar from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. The session will feature presentations from Neal Williams, UC-Davis and Arnon Dag from the Volcani Research Institute, Israel.
