Organic Transition Pilot Program Receives $6.1 Million in Grant Funding

The Organic Transition Pilot provides support to farmers who are preparing to transition to organic production and certification. This competitive grant program is designed as a block grant that awards funding to expert organizations that can provide financial, technical, translation, application, project follow-up and business planning assistance to producers transitioning to organic.

Recently, the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Office of Environmental Farming and Innovation awarded $6.1 million in grant funds to the California Certified Organic Farmers Foundation and the Community Alliance with Family Farmers who provide statewide services, as well as the Ventura County Resource Conservation District (serving Kern, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties) and the Rodale Institute (serving Ventura County).

Financial assistance distributed to agricultural operations transitioning to organic production can be spent on a range of items associated with transitioning acreage to organic farming and preparing soils for successful organic production.
