East Coast Distributor Celebrates 250th Anniversary of USA with Major California Avocado Sales Contest

Four Seasons, a significant distributor supplying independent retailers up and down the East Coast, is showcasing California avocados with a 90-day sales and merchandising contest for their retailers. The grand prize winner receives an educational trip to Ventura County to tour groves and packing facilities.

Participants can win prizes based on:

  • Size of display
  • Creativity
  • Use of organics
  • Patriotism
  • Best social post
  • Sales increase

This is the California Avocado Commission’s first year of working with Four Seasons, and doing so allows CAC to interface with hundreds of retailers with whom CAC might not normally have the opportunity to connect.

Retailers Spotlight California GEM Avocados 

There’s gold in the produce department with the arrival of GEM avocados. This season, Safeway in Arizona and Lunds & Byerlys in Minnesota showcased the variety through dedicated Facebook and Instagram posts, helping introduce shoppers to GEM avocados and their rich flavor, creamy texture and versatility. These retailer social media activations highlighted how California avocados are being promoted at key consumer touchpoints, building awareness and encouraging purchase throughout the season.

Consumer Influencer Content Highlights California Avocados During Peak Season 

CAC’s network of consumer influencer partners has now taken their California avocado content live across their social channels, showcasing craveable recipes, while highlighting the fruit’s seasonal availability and encouraging their followers to look for California on the label while picking up avocados. This content is designed to drive awareness and engagement and encourage purchase of California avocados during peak season. Recent content from influencers incorporated California Avocado Month messaging, helping extend awareness of the seasonal celebration and reinforce the benefits of choosing California-grown avocados during the height of the season. Influencers are carefully selected based on a high percentage of their audience being located within the California avocado target demographic, ensuring their content reaches consumers who will seek out and purchase the Golden State fruit.

CAC Trade Media Outreach Garners Extensive Trade Media Coverage of California Avocado Month

Fourteen years ago, the California Avocado Commission dubbed June as California Avocado Month because it was predictably in the heart of peak distribution of the seasonal fruit. This event became a rallying point for marketing efforts in both the trade and consumer arenas. With the increased activities, it provides an opportune time for CAC to work with retail and produce trade media to secure coverage in their outlets that reach key retail decision makers.

This year, the Commission distributed a trade media press release announcing to retailers and other trade audiences that California avocados are available and are supported with an integrated marketing program meant to further encourage consumer purchase. In addition, the CAC team worked with select publications to develop feature articles about California avocados during June. Trade media pickup has been strong, including these articles:
