Ag Employer Seminar and Spanish-language Ag Supervisor Certificate Training Workshop Available
The University of California Cooperative Extension of San Diego County offers a Farm Labor Management Training Program designed to help agricultural employers better understand and mitigate labor related risks. As part of this program, two ag labor management seminars are being hosted in August. Both seminars will take place at the Farm Bureau Conference Room located at 420 South Broadway, Escondido, CA.
On August 14 the Ag Employer Seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The seminar includes the following sessions:
- Legal and regulatory updates impacting agricultural employers
- Developing effective supervisors to manage today’s labor force
- Understanding and managing the H2A Visa Program effectively, including:
- Regulatory compliance issues of the H2A Visa Program
- Managing legal challenges of the H2A Visa application
- The H2A Visa Program from a grower’s perspective
The seminar fee is $60 if attendees register by August 4; after that date, the fee will increase to $75 per person. Seating is limited. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Online registration is now available for the Ag Employer Seminar.
The Spanish-language Ag Supervisor Training Certificate workshop will take place August 15 from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The workshop topics include:
- Roles and responsibilities of a front-line supervisor
- Positive communication in the workplace
- Worker health and safety: understanding the supervisor’s role in IIPP implementation
- Role of supervisors in harassment prevention
- Wage and hour basics
- Understanding union card-check elections: do’s and don’ts for ag supervisors
- Federal requirements: H2A rules, MSPA, FLCE registration, worker transportation, worker housing and notification of terms and conditions of employment
The seminar fee is $50 if attendees register by August 4; after that date, the fee will increase to $60 per person. Seating is limited to 60 participants. Online registration for the Ag Supervisor Training workshop is available.
