Commission Shares Sustainability Messaging at Organic Produce Summit
From July 12 – 13, more than 1,800 retailers, handlers and organic growers gathered in Monterey, California for the top-rated Organic Produce Summit. The California Avocado Commission represented California’s organic avocado growers at the event, taking advantage of the opportunity to showcase the state as a key supplier of organic fruit and spotlight the positive and sustainable farming practices that produce high-quality organic avocados.
The Organic Produce Summit is specifically tailored to focus on organic farming, marketing and retailing. As such, it draws a large crowd of industry decision makers including more than 400 retail executives in attendance this year. During the event attendees networked with industry members, attended educational workshops and visited an exhibit floor dedicated to produce marketers. Throughout the two-day event, CAC met with produce industry members, key retailers and AMRIC handlers from Del Rey Avocado, Mission Produce, Giumarra and McDaniel Fruit Company.
To build awareness of premium organic California avocados with retailers, the Commission discussed the current crop, growers’ sustainability practices and the materials it produces on behalf of organic growers. Further, the Commission showcased the organic California avocado promotions it produces for retailers in order to meet the demand for and pique the interest of consumers who prefer locally grown organic avocados. Ultimately, the event provided the Commission an opportunity to build loyalty to organic California avocados with a targeted group of retailers while discussing promotional plans with those interested in carrying the Golden State fruit.
