Drought Relief Grant Funds Available
The California Small Agricultural Business Drought and Flood Relief Grant Program awards funds to small agricultural businesses that have experienced a decline in annual gross receipts or profits due to drought or flood conditions. Awards are disbursed up to $100,000.
Drought funds are available to the following qualified small agriculture business groups. For all groups, the business must have been affected by severe drought according to a D2 or higher drought classification as listed by the USDA Drought Monitor. Growers can view the online drought map to determine if their business is located in an affected area.
Group 1. Small and socially disadvantaged farmers who experienced a decline of 10% or more in gross receipts/profits when comparing the 2022 and 2019 tax years. The business must have at least $1,000 but less than $350,000 in gross farm income for those years.
Group 2. Small agricultural businesses impacted by severe drought, with a 30% or more decline in gross receipts/profits when comparing the 2022 and 2019 tax years. The business also must be identified as one of the 2022 North American Industry Classification System or National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (growers may check the NAICS and NTEE codes online).
Group 3. Small agricultural businesses that do not file their 2022 tax returns until 2024.
