Restaurant Partners Celebrate California Avocado Month
The California Avocado Commission developed multiple activities that built excitement around California Avocado Month (June). Two of these programs also added value to restaurant operators’ purchase of California avocados. The Commission partnered with Nordstrom Restaurants and Buckhorn Grill to showcase the Golden State fruit in May and June. The promotions helped increase awareness of fresh California avocados’ seasonality, showcased California avocado growers and their groves and featured the fruit in meals away from home.
Nordstrom featured California avocados on point-of-sale materials and on menus at 86 foodservice outlets across the Western U.S. from May 9 – July 1. As part of their program, the restaurant chain featured the “Farm to fork” avocado grove video that customers could easily access through QR codes located on in-store POS.
Nine Buckhorn BBQ + Grill Northern California units also featured California avocados on their menu and ran a California avocado merchandise giveaway for fans through the chain’s social media accounts. California avocados were celebrated from May 7 – June 24 and the promotion received great consumer reactions.
Both Nordstrom and Buckhorn BBQ + Grill also showcased the California Avocados brand logo on their websites, on in-store POS and on digital channels throughout the duration of their promotions. In addition, each chain sent unique email blasts and in-app messages, as well as shared social media posts on their Instagram and Facebook accounts that mentioned and/or tagged California avocados. Together, these restaurant chain promotions helped secure distribution of California avocados while encouraging demand for the fruit during the peak season.
