Resource Center

Numerous resources are available to California avocado growers in order to assist them in developing and implementing cultural management practices that help them consistently produce high quality avocado harvests.

Avocadosource.com. Free, virtual library of avocado knowledge. This web site is funded and managed by the Hofshi Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to the dissemination of avocado knowledge around the globe.

California Avocado Society. The mission of the California Avocado Society (CAS) is to promote efficiency of production and orderly marketing toward assuring long term profitability for the business of avocado growing.  CAS conducts grower seminars and provides a number of tools, including the grower handbook, to aide California growers in improving their production practices.  

University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Farm Advisors. UCCE Farm Advisors extend useful, technical, and economic research-based information to producers in their assigned county or counties. They provide local subject matter leadership and expertise in assigned areas to determine and evaluate clientele problems.

The Regional CropSWAP (Sustainable Water for Agricultural Production) was developed with the goal of enhancing efficiency for agricultural water users in western Riverside and northern San Diego Counties by offering financial assistance for transitioning away from high-water-use and initiating best management practices to foster sustainable water use.

There is the potential for agricultural producers to receive storm-related aid via the Emergency Conservation Program. To help the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency get a better picture of the extent of damage caused by winter 2024 storms, California avocado growers are encouraged to complete the following storm damage surveys (as applicable).

Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Southern California due to recent flooding and the San Diego County Department of Weights and Measures is collecting Agricultural Damage Assessment forms from agricultural operations that have experienced impacts due to recent rain events.

The State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program provides grants to help agricultural operations implement irrigation systems that reduce greenhouse gases and save water.  The online SWEEP grant applications were made available on December 5 and grant application workshops are available to assist applicants.
