To help promote California avocado season, the California Avocado Commission partnered with two popular Northern California restaurant chains showcasing unique menu items and promotions urging diners to enjoy the fruit while it is at its peak availability. The restaurant chain promotions help build demand for the fruit and loyalty to the brand. The programs feature inspirational California avocado-centric meal options that pique consumer interest in consuming the locally grown avocados while dining out or at home and purchasing them at their local retailer.

Nine Buckhorn BBQ & Grill locations in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area were quick to inform their patrons that locally grown and sustainably farmed California avocados. were available on their favorite sandwiches and salads from May 10 – June 21. Reinforcing their farm-to-table commitment, Buckhorn shared a video of one of their team members at the foodservice Avocado Grove Open House hosted by the Commission where she harvested the fruit, learned about avocado tree grafting and learned how to pair California avocados with a variety of dishes.

Ladle & Leaf, another San Francisco Bay Area chain celebrated the California avocado season at nine units from May 13 – June 24 by offering diners the opportunity to add the fresh fruit to salads, sandwiches and wraps. In addition, the chain featured messaging about the seasonality of sustainably farmed California avocados on their social channels.

The Commission will compare the usage of avocado cases this year versus last year and track the effectiveness of the chains’ social media platforms to quantify the impact of the promotions.
