The California Avocado Commission’s social media program is a fundamental part of CAC’s demand-building marketing campaign — providing both a widespread reach and the ability to specifically target audiences where California avocados are available. The California avocado audience is highly active on social media with Facebook, Instagram and TikTok particularly popular.

It is officially awards season in the produce marketing industry, and the California Avocado Commission earned one of the highest honors in August when trade publication Produce Business recognized CAC’s “What’s Inside a California Avocado?” marketing campaign in its “36th Annual Marketing Excellence Awards.

In preparation for a potentially larger crop in 2025, representatives from the California Avocado Commission’s Marketing team and its consumer marketing agency, Curious Plot, coordinated a video and photo shoot in the groves of three California avocado farmers — Hayden Mcintyre, Jim Miller and his son Daryn Miller, and Andy Sheaffer and his sons.

During the Fourth of July holiday in the California region, strong supply of California avocados helped boost retail sales. Overall supply of avocados from all sources for the two weeks leading up to the Fourth of July holiday shopping period reached nearly 102 million pounds.

During peak season CAC hosted retail sales contests, promoted Calfiornia bagged and GEM avocados with key retail partners and supported retail partners with AvoScore cards that provide a comprehensive understanding of how California avocados are performing year-over-year and during the California season in the retail marketplace.

Dog Haus and MIXT, two California-based fast casual chains, added seasonal flavor to popular menu items with fresh California avocados during the peak of the season, maximizing flavor throughout their dishes. And summer consumer media programs were in full swing, promoting California avocados across multiple platforms.

This season, the California Avocado Commission has taken on a hyperlocal strategic approach by partnering with influencers whose followers are mostly concentrated in key markets where California avocados are in distribution. Because most of these influencers have a smaller fan base than more widely known partners, working with them can be very cost effective.

The restaurant chain promotions help build demand for the fruit and loyalty to the brand.
