Emergency Relief Funds Available for Extreme Weather Events

The California Family Farmer Emergency Fund is accepting applications for extreme weather event relief grants. The deadline to apply is April 1

The California Underserved and Small Producer (CUSP) program provides small and medium scale California producers with grants related to extreme weather including wildfires, flooding, extreme heat and pest quarantines. Coverage applies to losses from 2021 onwards and includes loss of property, equipment, crops, sales, etc. Each applicant can receive up to $20,000 as reimbursement for damages incurred. To be eligible, applicants:

  • Must be actively working the land, derive a portion of their income from their own farm business and be involved in the day-to-day operations
  • Make a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $400,000 in gross annual sales

Fifty percent of funds are available to farmers of color, immigrant farmers and undocumented farmers.
