The U.S. Department of Agriculture has compiled a Risk Management Document concerning the potential decision to permit the importation of avocados from Guatemala, a region known for the prevalence of the avocado seed weevil. California avocado growers are encouraged to submit comments or letters and submit them to the USDA.

California avocado growers are highly encouraged to respond to the Commission’s 2024 Planning Survey, which provides growers with the opportunity to offer input about how CAC invests its resources in marketing, production research, industry affairs and export market development. 

The California Avocado Commission’s Board of Directors currently has a Producer Member seat available for District 2. The appointee will fill the vacant seat for the remainder of the unexpired term through October 31, 2024.

The Commission’s Board of Directors currently has a Handler Member and Handler Alternate Member seat available. Appointees will fill the vacant seats for the remainder of their unexpired terms: October 31, 2024 for the Member seat and October 31, 2025 for the Alternate Member.

The California Avocado Commission will host a field day at Pine Tree Ranch on June 5, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. that will focus on the new California avocado crop coefficient research, using a crop coefficient for irrigation purposes and the GEM spacing trial.

The deadline to complete the California Avocado Commission’s annual grower crop survey is May 15. Grower input from the survey is crucial in helping the Commission fine tune the California crop estimate, predict the flow of avocados to market and assess challenges growers are facing.

From April 15 – 17, the California Avocado Commission held a series of CAC Annual Meetings to share the latest news with industry members and solicit their feedback.

The California Avocado Society, in partnership with the California Avocado Commission and UC Cooperative Extension, is hosting a grower seminar on April 11 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. that will provide a comprehensive overview of California avocado grove fertilization.
