CAC General Election Underway — Accepting Nominations

  • Aug 15, 2024

The California Avocado Commission Board of Directors 2024 General Election is now underway with nominations being accepted through August 26, 2024. The election will seat one producer member for each of the five grower districts as well one handler. The newly elected members will serve a two-year term ending on October 31, 2026. The list of open seats is available on the CAC General Election webpage. All necessary nomination materials also are available on this webpage.

Producer candidates may be nominated by a petition signed by five eligible producers from the district in which they are seeking election. Handler candidates may be nominated by a petition signed by one eligible handler outside of the organization the nominee represents.

The Commission will mail ballots to producers and handlers on September 25, with ballots due October 25. The election will utilize a ranked choice voting method in which voters rank candidates in order of preference. The candidate receiving the highest number of first choice votes will be offered the available seat.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture will advise CAC staff of the election results on November 8. On November 14 the election results will be announced to the CAC Board and the new members will be seated.
